Star Wars legends Imperial navy is pretty strong, def not the strongest tho. Only the conventional stuff, no crazy space magic. Mainly cuz of strong shields, really good FTL and powerful weapons. Also only in legends. Base canon Star Wars really really sucks in the power department
Sci-Fi Shotguns and Projectile Weapons. There are also physical limits to how fast a projectile can be accelerated in atmosphere. Above a certain velocity, drag quickly slows the bullet. You can fire two bullets, one at 4000 feet per second, one at 3000. Within a hundred yards, they’ll both be slowed to the same velocity anyway.

This pretty much sums up my philosophy in sci-fi worldbuilding, but I would like to add two extra points about the pros and cons of directed-energy vs. kinetic in space vs. atmosphere in my settings. First, blooming. Any directed-energy weapon suffers from a drop in performance when fired in atmosphere due to energy transfer into the environment.
